Week of April 16, 2018

Thursday Folder Fliers:

Budget Information:
As we move forward into the next school year, Douglas County School District is considering a Mill Levy Override and Bond to support our school funding and capital projects. An important point to note about school funding is that economic growth in Douglas County does not increase total funding to schools. In other words, the more taxes the state collects from Douglas County, the less the state will provide in order to meet the fixed total of $7,389. The first image below provides information about how school funding is provided to districts.

With the introduction of a mill levy override, schools receive additional funding on top of what the state provides. The image below shows the difference in funding with the addition of mill levy overrides.

The image below show the difference in funding for districts in another way.

Bond funding pays for capital improvements such as roofs, HVAC, technology, other building improvements, and new construction. Currently, Iron Horse is in desperate need of a new roof. The image below shows the bond funding for school districts since 2008.

If you are interested in more information or in supporting the effort to garner a mill levy override and bond, please contact Kirsten.Bloomfield@dcsdk12.org.

A group of our 5th grade students are partnering with the Student Leadership Council to raise funds for a redesign of the teacher's lounge. Please help our students in this great real-world task! Spirit Week will run from April 23rd to April 27th. Days include:

Ms. Becki's New Adventures:
Iron Horse Community, my family and I will be embarking on an exciting adventure at the end of this summer and I will not be returning to work in the office after the completion of this school year.  For the last decade or so, my husband and I have been working toward traveling on a full-time basis, and we feel that we are finally at a point to be able to do so.  I am going to be homeschooling our kids while we travel around the United States, with the possibility of a few international trips sprinkled in.

It is very difficult for me to leave what I consider to be the perfect job.  We have an amazing group of parents, educators, and community members who support our students and I consider myself lucky to be a part of it.  The students at Iron Horse will always have a special place in my heart; I will truly miss greeting them at the door each morning, fixing up scraped knees, and unexpected hugs, among many other wonderful memories.  Thank you all so much for the opportunity to have a place in your child's life, they have all certainly enriched mine.

DCSD Art Show:
We'd like to recognize our art show entrants: Penelope Little, Peyton Watrous, Rylee Hanson, Allison Gasowski, Will Capre, and Lily Schmidt. Congratulations to Rylee, who won Third Place, and Lily, who received an Honorable Mention. Way to go kiddos!

I think every kid deserves to be cared for and treated just the same as every other kid. I love to help people, and especially kids in need of every day needs.
