Week of October 22, 2018

Thursday Folder Flyers:

Trunk of Treat TONIGHT:
We hope you can join us for our Legend Feeder Trunk or Treat tonight from 5-7pm. Families can safely trick or treat at trunks from 5-6pm, as well as go into decorated rooms, carbe pumpkins, and have fun! All students who bring in 5 canned items will also receive a "glowing" treat! We hope to see you there!

Original Art Works:
Don't forget to turn in your students artwork with a purchase receipt on the back for our Original Works fundraiser by Friday, October 26th.  Purchased items make great holiday gifts for family and friends and a percentage of the funds go towards the Iron Horse Art Department to purchase art supplies for the year.  I would love to save up for some specialty technology items but paper, paint, and clay come first.
Thank you so much for all your support,
Erin O'Hara
Art Specialist

Read-a-Thon:
We are so excited for our fall fundraiser - the IHE Read-a-thon! It is our opportunity to raise critical funds to support the school as well as promote literacy for our children. PTO choose to replace our prior fundraiser through Boosterthon to ensure that the full proceeds of the fundraising directly impact our school (previously Boosterthon took 40% of the profits).

Like all schools in the county, we have a large wish list. Last year, the funds were used towards the playground shade structure and flexible seating for every classroom. This year, we have classroom focused requests. Here is a sample of the funding priorities: Raz Kids ; History Alive ; Literacy Footprints ; Art Room Supplies ; Headphones ; Ipad Charging Stations ; Skillastics ; Playground Equipment ; Social Studies Weekly ; Special Education Supplies ; Whole School Math. All monies raised from this event will be used to fund these staff requests.

Our Read-A-Thon will run from Nov 1 to 9th during which time will be set aside in the classroom during different themed days to promote reading. Children will be encouraged to read a minimum of 1 unit* per evening.
A Unit equals the following for each grade level:
K/1 – 10 mins
2/3 – 20 mins
4/5 – 30 Mins.

The more units read the more changes to win individual and classroom prizes.
The more the students get sponsored for reading the more changes they will have to win individual and classroom prizes.

There are three main areas we need our parents & caregivers supports:
Encouragement – Help your student to read a minimum of 1 unit during the Read-a-Thon period
Sponsor – Sponsor your student and encourage friends and families to sponsor the child or donate to the school. As a 501(c)(3) your donations are tax deductible.
Time – The PTO will need volunteers in school between Nov 1-9

Your student will receive more information during the week of October 22nd. In the meantime, we are asking them to start encouraging family and friends to sponsor them.
