Family Field Day
We’re excited to announce that our school community will still be participating in our regularly scheduled school-wide field day (virtually) on Friday, May 15th.

Although field day will look quite different this year, we think you will still have a blast participating in the fun activities and friendly competitions at home with your loved ones. Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this virtual event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community.

Our virtual field day events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies.

These are the supplies you will need for our virtual field day:
● One or more old pillowcases
● Socks (rolled into balls)
● Paper
● Paper plates or similar flat and light items (like tupperware lids)
● Paper or plastic cups
● Towel
● Laundry basket or cardboard box

Here’s how it will work: On Friday, May 15th we will share a document that contains the 10 field day events you can choose from. You are welcome to do all the events or just choose a few to complete. To allow time for families to participate in the virtual field day there will be no lessons posted this day from classroom teachers.

All Iron Horse staff are encouraged to participate in the events as well. There will be a folder attached to the field day document that will allow you to share photos and or videos of your participation in this event. We will compile the shared videos and photos to create a slideshow we can share with our school community.

We can’t wait to see the photos and videos of you and your family enjoying this event together!
Stay well, Mrs. Perkins

Super Hero Citizen Project - Help Needed:
Bring out your inner SuperHero and make a sign for our community!  Our specials team plans on making a video for those who need a positive energy boost.  Corona Kryptonite is draining their morale!
K-1st grades have essential workers
2-3rd grades have first responders and medical workers
4-5th grades have retirement communities who are missing their families
Make a sign showing your appreciation and/or something that might boost their spirits.  Take a picture of your student holding their sign or just the sign by itself and email it to eohara@dcsdk12.org with your child's grade and CSH in the subject line.  For more information click on Citizen Super Hero.

Monday Mindfulness Activity:
Giving Compliments
As we spend even more time together it can become hard to remember the positives in each other. Remember our story about bucket filling? Not only does filling someone’s bucket with kindness make them feel good, it also makes us feel good when we are nice to others! Compliments make us all feel good.
Let’s give it a try.
  1. Take a piece of paper and trace out your hand.
  2. In each finger of the drawing, go around and have a family member write in a compliment to you until all the fingers are filled with compliments.
  3. In the middle, give yourself a compliment!
  4. Have each family member do one too!
Give your parent(s)/guardians, AND siblings each one (or more) compliment(s).
Here are multiple ways you can give compliments to your family, you could even do this with a friend!

Mindfulness Project:
No matter how small you are, you can make a big difference. This is the message the book Carl and the Meaning of Life shares with us as we participate in the following Mind Up activity.

Hello IHE families, we’re working on a Mindfulness project for our community in which the more participants we have the greater an impact we’ll make.  If you check out the Mind Up activity on Mrs. Bloomfield's Principal’s Blog, you’ll find a project titled Citizen Super Hero.  We would like to make a slideshow for community workers such as store workers, medical and first responders, and our retired population showing our gratitude and sympathy for all that they’re doing and going through in this difficult time.  Join us in making a difference in the community and putting a smile on someone’s face.
Thank you so much-
Ms. O’Hara
