Fall Elementary Progress Reports (EPR) Released December 21st:
Teachers are celebrating students’ growth as they complete Fall Elementary School Progress Reports (EPRs).  EPRs will be released to parents on Saturday, December 21st at 8:00am, through the EngagED Parent Portal. Go to this link to view the directions to access your child's EPR. 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten:
The Parker library has a program for Pre-K students called the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. The link to more information about this program is:  https://www.dcl.org/1000-books/ . The library also offers 3 story times daily, Monday through Friday. We highly encourage our families to take advantage of these great opportunities in preparation for Kindergarten!

Polar Express Night:
Our PTO will be hosting a Polar Express Night on Thursday, December 19th from 5:00pm-7:30pm in the Gym. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served from 5-5:30pm. At 5:30pm, the movie will promptly begin. Everyone is welcome to bring pillows and blankets to use on the floor, and pajamas are encouraged! Please note that camping chairs/folding chairs are only allowed in the back 1/3 of the gym. All children attending must have an adult (18 years or older) in attendance for the ENTIRE duration of the event for safety purposes.

Holiday Store:
The IHE PTO will be holding a Holiday Store for students to purchase gifts for family members from December 11-13th in the OT classroom. Students will have the opportunity to choose and purchase items for their family. Please note that students are making the choices, which provides them with experience in selecting items and utilizing funds to purchase them. Students are not "guided" during the purchasing process. All items can be purchased for $.25 to $5.00. If you would like your child to purchase items, please send in monies in an envelope or ziploc bag with your child's full name and teacher on the outside. IHE staff are not responsible for any monies or items lost or misplaced.

Thanksgiving Lunch:
Thanksgiving Lunch will be served on Wednesday, November 20th. Adult meals cost $4.25. Please reserve your spot by Monday, November 18th. Please see the flyer before for more information. 

Watch Dog Dads:
Calling all dads! We would love for you to join us during the school day to support our kiddos. The Watch Dog Dad program is a volunteer program specifically for dads to join in their child's school day. Please sign up on the IHE website under Our School-->Opportunities for Fathers. 

Poinsettia and Christmas Cactus Sales:
Our PTO is selling poinsettias and Christmas cactus' for $13 each. Purchases can be made at www.FunServicesColorado.com. 

Discovery Program for Gifted Students:
The Discovery Program Application process is now open for the 2020 - 2021 school year. 

The Douglas County School District Discovery Program offers full day gifted programming in all content areas. This programming option is designed to meet the needs of gifted elementary school students (grades 2 -6)  who require intensity of instruction and acceleration beyond what can reasonably be expected from the regular school gifted programming.

In an effort to ensure equitable opportunity for families to learn about this program we have scheduled three Discovery Program Information Sessions during the month of November.


Discovery Program Application Process
The Discovery Program application for the 2020-21 is now available online and can be found HERE.  Our application process has been revamped and many of the previous documents are now in google forms.  This will help us to streamline the process.

Happy Halloween from the IHE Office Staff!
All Halloween candy donated to the school for Trunk or Treat was handed out to all of our awesome students on Halloween. 

Refrigerator Needed:
One of the refrigerators in the teacher's lounge has stopped working. We are looking for a working refrigerator so that staff can store their lunches in it. Please contact the office if you have one that you can donate. Thank you!

We are proud to host our Veteran's for a celebration on November 8th where our 3rd graders will be performing. We will be hosting two celebrations: 11:15-11:45am (4th and 5th graders will attend) and 1:45-2:15pm (Kindergarten, First and Second graders will attend). All veterans are welcome to enjoy lunch on Iron Horse anytime between 10:55 and 1:10pm.

Legend Feeder Spooktacular:
We hope that you will join us for our Legend Feeder Spooktacular on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:00-7:00pm in the lower Legend parking lot. Students who bring in 5 cans of food will receive a free glow stick to wear at the event. 

We are still in need of lots of candy to make this event a success. Please send in your Halloween candy donations by Wednesday. Thank you! 

Winter Shelter Network:
From November 1 through March 31, WSN provides shelter to Douglas County women and women with children who are experiencing homelessness. If you are a woman or woman with children and a resident of Douglas County, please following the link below to apply for shelter. A volunteer from the WSN will contact you within 24 hours to discuss the program and next steps.


At this time we are unable to serve: 
 - Males 18 and over
 - Women fleeing a domestic abuse situation
 - Women with a substance abuse issues
 - Women who have an untreated serious mental health condition


If your household includes any of our exclusions, please contact 211 to find regional shelters that might be available to you. The following local agencies do not offer shelter but may be able to assist with other needs based on agency qualification requirements:

Red Ribbon Week:
Iron Horse is celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 21-October 25. We have theme days for each day of the week. We will be hosting a Blackhawk helicopter landing on October 24th at 2:30pm on the fields in front of the school. ALL STUDENTS WHO WISH TO ATTEND THE LANDING MUST COMPLETE THIS FORM TO ATTEND. ANY STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE THIS FORM COMPLETED WILL REMAIN IN THE GYM DURING THE LANDING. ALL forms must be completed by October 23rd.

Students of the Month:
Our students of the month from August (Be Kind) and September (Be Honest) were honored today at our monthly assembly. Kudos to these great kids!

Fall Conferences Sign Up:
Fall Conferences are coming! Sign ups will begin TODAY and will close on October 6th. Please use the following directions to sign up to meet with your child's teacher, our special education staff members, or our specials teachers.

To sign up, please go to the Iron Horse Website
Once you are at the website, click on the Parent Resources.

Once there, you will click on "Online Scheduler"

This will direct you the the Online Scheduler page. From there, please select "IRON HORSE ELEMENTARY" and click "Go". Then you will need to enter your student's ID number (same as their lunch number) and the password "engineer". From there, you will be able to select a date and time for your student's assessment.

Standard Response Protocol:
On Monday, September 30th, students will engage in a Lockdown Drill in accordance with district policy and with district personnel present. A lockdown occurs when there is a threat within the confines of the building. In a Lockdown Drill, students are informed via intercom that we are under a "Lockdown Drill" and to take their appropriate places. District personnel, along with Mrs. Bloomfield and Mrs. Carlson, check each room and talk to the students. Once the drill is complete, an announcement is made that the drill is complete and students/staff can return to their regularly scheduled activities. We will send out a School Messenger blast when our drill is complete to inform the community.
