Thursday Folder Fliers:


Red House Recycling:
Please drop off your textile items to our "little red house". Items accepted include: blankets, clothing, shoes, towels, etc. Items not to donate include: electronics. All proceeds from recycling support our SSN classroom. 



IHE Literacy Night:
Please join us for food and reading fun! We will be hosting our first annual Literacy Night on Thursday, November 9th from 6:00-7:30pm. IHE will be providing pizza, drinks, and cookies. Following dinner, parents and students can attend different stations to learn about fun ways to engage in reading at home. Please RSVP with the office so that we can purchase the correct amount of food. We hope to have you join us for this fun evening! 

Author Visit:
We are so excited to welcome author Stan Yan to Iron Horse on Thursday, November 9th! Mr. Yan is the author of the book There's a Zombie in the Basement. Books autographed by Mr. Yan will be available for sale. Flyers to order books will be sent out next week.  

Spirit Wear:
Thank you for your patience. We had a glitch with our vendor and currently are waiting to receive the 3/4 length shirts. They should be available within 2-3 weeks. 

Box Tops:
Please send in your box tops! The class with the most box tops received by January 31st will receive a hot chocolate party! Please write your child's teacher's name on a slip of paper in the baggie. 

PTO Feedback Needed:

PTO Texas Roadhouse Roll Sales:
PTO is again selling Texas Roadhouse rolls for your Thanksgiving dinner. Roll sales start October 20th and continue until November 2nd. Orders will be ready for pick up on November 15th - just in time to enjoy on Thanksgiving! Order forms are available in the office or through the link at the top of the blog. 


Veteran's Day Celebration:
We will be celebrating our veteran's on Friday, November 10 at two different times; 10:30-11:00am and 1:30-2:00pm. Celebrations will take place in the gym. Lunches will remain at the same times. All veteran's are welcome to join us for our celebration and/or lunch.

Halloween Parties:
All classrooms will hold Halloween parties on October 31st from 8:45-9:30am. Breakfast items will be served. Students may come to school in costume (over their school clothes) and will change after the parties have taken place. Students should follow the student dress code and refrain from wearing/bringing the following items:

  • masks
  • facepaint
  • weapons
  • gore
  • items with inappropriate language
Hats may be worn during the party but should be removed after the party ends. Please contact your student's teacher with any questions.

The Conference Scheduler is closing tonight at 11:59pm. Please ensure that you have signed up for a time to discuss your child's progress this year.

Book Fair Volunteers:
We are in DIRE need of volunteers to help make this a successful event. If you are available to help, please sign up here: Sign Up for Volunteering. Parents who donate their time will receive 10% off of their purchases. All funds from the book fair will be used to purchase sets of book series for the Junction.

The Junction:
Students are enjoying all of the varied activities available to them, and the ability to check out books as frequently as they'd like. I love seeing all of the kids going in and out of The Junction! Here is a great article that focuses on the transformation of a library to a learning common.

Students are having a fantastic time in our Junction! Students are able to check out books as needed throughout the week, but also have a scheduled time for class visits. Ask your child about the awesome things they are doing with Ms. Cunningham!

We are looking for classified substitutes to support our students during the lunch hours of 10:45am-1:35pm in the event that our regular employees need to be out. If you are interested in applying, please follow this link.

Allies in Promoting Prevention:
Douglas County's Prevention and School Culture department have partnered with schools to provide resources and information for parents and students to prevent bullying, school violence, substance abuse and suicide. The purpose of the department is to ensure that all students know where to get help and from whom. Here is a link to the department's page for parents: Prevention and School Culture. Fall Conferences:
Teachers will be holding conferences the week of October 2-6. Please schedule a time to meet with your child's teacher in order to learn more about their progress so far this year. The Online Scheduler will be open today until September 28 to schedule a conference with your teacher. In order to schedule a time, please use the directions below. 

To sign up, please go to the Iron Horse Website
Once you are at the website, click on the Parent Resources.

Once there, you will click on "On Line Scheduler"
This will direct you the the Online Scheduler page. From there, please select "IRON HORSE ELEMENTARY" and click "Go". Then you will need to enter your student's ID number (same as their lunch number) and the password "engineer". From there, you will be able to select a date and time for your student's assessment. 




Parking Lot:
We are continuing to have issues with parents/guardians not obeying traffic laws at the intersections of Tallman and Hilltop and Tallman and Club Dr. In order to keep everyone safe, please DO NOT stop in the middle of crosswalks or go the wrong direction into the school. Parker Police Department is aware of the issues and will continue to monitor and hand out traffic tickets. Thank you for your support in keeping our families and staff safe!

Assessment Day: 
On September 21st, we will be assessing our students in the area of reading. This is also our district student count day, for which we receive funding. Teachers will be taking attendance for our records so please make sure to have your child attend. A parent or guardian must accompany each student. Students who attend BASE will be taken to their appointment by the BASE staff. OnLine Scheduler is now open until September 17th for our Assessment Day. In order to schedule a time, please use the directions below.

Tomorrow is the last day to turn in order forms for our Spirit Wear fall order. Please turn in all orders to the front office.
