November "Year of Awesome" Event:
We will be doing a penny drive for Clean the World Soap Campaign for our November "year of awesome" focus. Clean the World is an organization that sends hygiene kits to at-risk countries around the world. Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a disease that could have been prevented with proper hygiene. Please bring your pennies to the office for collection. In January, we will be collecting bars of soap. The pennies we collect this month will help to support paying for shipping the bars of soap, as well as well as to provide donations to the organization.
Trunk or Treat:
Thank you to all of the families and businesses that participated in the Trunk or Treat, or that donated candy. It was a fabulous event, and staff had a great time seeing all of our students.
Halloween Parties:
Students will be allowed to come to school in their costumes (with regular clothing underneath) on Monday, October 31st to celebrate Halloween. Classroom parties will be held from 8:30-9:30am with breakfast treats (8:30-9:15 for All day and AM Kindergarten, 1:15-2:00 for PM Kindergarten). Students will then remove their costumes and continue with their learning. Costumes must follow the following guidelines:
- No blood, profanity, gore, or otherwise offensive items/decor
- No masks or face paint
- No weapons or items that could be construed as being a weapon
Please contact your student's teacher if you have any questions.
Open Enrollment:
Is your family making a local move and you want to stay at Iron Horse Elementary? If so, the process is quick and easy! The open enrollment window for the 2017-2018 school year will be open from November 1, 2016 through January 5, 2017. You can find the link on our district website. Once you have moved into your new home, just file an updated proof of residence with the school office.
Kindergarten Registration for 2017-18 School Year:
Our Kindergarten registration will begin on December 8. Students who are eligible to attend Kindergarten must be 5 years of age by October 1, 2017. In order to register, you will need a birth certificate, valid proof of residency, current immunizations, and a completed Kindergarten packet. Packets will be available in the office on December 8.
We will offer full day and half day Kindergarten classes. Placement will be first come, first serve for the first 16 applicants. Students that register after these slots have been filled will be placed on a list for our lottery. If you are one of the first 16 and are choosing full day kindergarten, we will also need a $100 deposit to secure the spot. Our lottery will be conducted in April to fill our remaining Kindergarten slots. Please see the office if you have any questions.
Texas Roadhouse Roll Sales:
Just in time for the holidays, Iron Horse is teaming up with Texas Roadhouse to provide delicious rolls and cinnamon butter to help raise money for the school! Iron Horse will be selling frozen Texas Roadhouse rolls with the signature cinnamon butter for only $6.00 per dozen now through November 2nd. The order form can be found in our Thursday Folder Fliers. These rolls are sure to be a hit at your holiday dinner! Invite your family and friends to order too! The frozen rolls are flat and easily stored in your freezer, so feel free to stock up. Rolls will be delivered for pickup at the school on November 16th at a time to be determined.
Veteran's Day Celebration:
We will be celebrating our Veteran's on November 11. We will have two options for our veterans - 10:30-10:55 Program (for those associated with AM Kindergarten, Full Day Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grades) or 1:35-2:00 Program (for those associated with PM Kindergarten, 4th or 5th grades). Our 3rd graders will be performing at both performances. Our veterans are also invited to eat lunch for free with our students in the cafeteria. Please contact the office for more information.
Dogs on Campus:
As a reminder, dogs are not allowed on campus for safety reasons. Please keep you dogs at home for the safety of our students and staff. Thank you!
Dismissal:
Please remind your students to go directly home if walking, biking, or scootering. We have several students every day who are playing in the grass areas or at the park. We are only able to provide supervision at the school until 3:45. At that time, parents will be called to pick up their children if they are sill here. Thank you!
