Week of April 9, 2018

All Pro Dads:
Please join us for our final All Pro Dads breakfast for the year on Thursday, April 19 from 7:45-8:20am in the cafeteria. PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE. This is a great time for dads to spend with their children discussing a variety of topics.

Ms. Becki's New Adventures:
Iron Horse Community, my family and I will be embarking on an exciting adventure at the end of this summer and I will not be returning to work in the office after the completion of this school year.  For the last decade or so, my husband and I have been working toward traveling on a full-time basis, and we feel that we are finally at a point to be able to do so.  I am going to be homeschooling our kids while we travel around the United States, with the possibility of a few international trips sprinkled in.

It is very difficult for me to leave what I consider to be the perfect job.  We have an amazing group of parents, educators, and community members who support our students and I consider myself lucky to be a part of it.  The students at Iron Horse will always have a special place in my heart; I will truly miss greeting them at the door each morning, fixing up scraped knees, and unexpected hugs, among many other wonderful memories.  Thank you all so much for the opportunity to have a place in your child's life, they have all certainly enriched mine.

DCSD Art Show:
We'd like to recognize our art show entrants: Penelope Little, Peyton Watrous, Rylee Hanson, Allison Gasowski, Will Capre, and Lily Schmidt. Congratulations to Rylee, who won Third Place, and Lily, who received an Honorable Mention. Way to go kiddos!

Father-Daughter Dance:
Please join us on Friday, April 13th for our annual Father Daughter Dance from 7:00-8:00pm in the gym. The theme this year is Lights, Camera, Dance! The cost to attend this event is $10 per daughter. This is a wonderful evening for our dads and girls. We hope you can make it!

Box Top Winner:
Mrs. Ackerman's class won the box tops contest! Students will be enjoying popsicles on a warm afternoon outside.

Colorado Rockies Choir Performance:
On Saturday, May 12 at 6:00pm, Iron Horse's choir will be performing the national anthem (along with 5 other DCSD schools) at the Colorado Rockies game. We are one of 12 schools chosen for this event! Please join us in rooting on our outstanding choir students. Details regarding the evening and ticket purchases are listed in the flyer above.

Spirit Week:
A group of our 5th grade students are partnering with the Student Leadership Council to raise funds for a redesign of the teacher's lounge. Each spirit day will cost $1 to support this project. 5th grade students have spoken with a variety of staff members to determine their needs and wants to create a teacher's lounge that is fun and functional. 5th grade students will be using the funds from our upcoming spirit week to purchase supplies (furniture, paint, etc) to accomplish this. 5th graders will partner with students from Legend High School's EDGE program to complete this makeover. Please help our students in this great real-world task! Spirit Week will run from April 23rd to April 27th. Days include:

  • April 23 - Neon Day
  • April 24 - What You Want to be When You Grow Up Day
  • April 25 - Crazy Hair Day
  • April 26 - Dress Up Like Your Teacher Day
  • April 27 - Pajama Day

Denver Rescue Mission Drive:
One of our fourth grade students is hosting a drive for kids clothing to support the Denver Rescue Mission. This drive will run from Monday, April 16 through Thursday, April 19. Please send in your items to the office. Please see the message from Izzy below:

  • I am Izabel Simonton. I am a fourth grader in Mrs. Ward's class. I am doing this drive for the Denver Rescue Mission because I am very passionate about homeless kids. I think every kid deserves to be cared for and treated just the same as every other kid. I love to help people, and especially kids in need of every day needs. I love to make people happy so I hope I get lots of donations to give to the boys and girls at the Denver Rescue Mission. I hope you all have a wonderful day and thank you!

All proceeds from this event go directly to IHE staff to purchase instructional items for student use.

School Accountability Committee:
The School Accountability Committee (SAC) is an advisory committee, not a governing body, that advises the principal on school performance, budget priorities and parental engagement. The purpose of the committee is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes.  Each SAC is comprised of parents, community members, principals and teachers. Elections for Chair, Vice Chair, and District Accountability Committee Liaison will take place during our May 16th meeting from 5:00-6:00pm.
