Week of March 25, 2019

Student Learning Profiles for 2019-2020 School Year:
We will begin the process of determining class lists in April. In preparation for this, if you would like to provide input as to your child's needs, please complete this form. This will provide us with the information necessary to create class lists. Please note that we will not take specific teacher requests and that all information regarding your child's needs must be received via this form. Information given to staff members will not be accepted. This form is due on April 12th. Information received after this date will not be accepted.

Parking Lot Procedure Reminders:
Please DO NOT exit your vehicle during drop off or pick up. This causes back ups in our line and creates frustration for other parents. If you need to exit your vehicle to get your child out of the car, please park and walk them to the sidewalk.

We also ask that parents DO NOT drop off or pick up within our parking lot area. There is not adult supervision in this area, which creates a very serious safety concern for our students. Thank you for your help in supporting our procedures!

Father/Daughter Dance:
Please join us for a magical evening where all of our girls can dance with their dads, granddads, uncles, etc on Friday, April 12th from 7:00-8:00pm in the IHE Gym. Please see the flyer above for more details and ways to purchase tickets.

Half Day Kindergarten Survey:
As you may be aware, the state of Colorado is currently debating the funding for full day kindergarten. As we make preparations for next year, we would like your feedback in regards to the effect of this on our school. If you have chosen to have your student attend half day kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year, please complete this survey by April 12th to help us in our preparations. Thank you!

Principal for the Morning:
I had the great pleasure of sharing my principal duties with Julia H. before spring break. Julia did a wonderful job conducting a fire drill, observing teachers and students, and providing teachers with treats to get them through the day. It was a wonderful morning! Here is Julia's reflection on her experiences:

DCSEAC Shining Star Awards:
Congratulations to our preschool staff members, Terry Willis and Mo Zelle, for their Shining Star nominations! Shining Stars are DCSD staff members nominated for outstanding service by the parents and/or care givers of students receiving special education services.

News from the Art Room:
Congratulations to Luke Ivie, our April artist of the month!  We took a trip to India and Peru where we looked at blankets and decoration the native people put on the elephants and llamas they use to help them with daily activities.  Students chose one of the animals to draw, create their blanket, and review the parts of a landscape  painting.  You can check out his work in front of the art room and on the art department web page.

The DCSD Art Show is about to start!  Come join us April 5th through the 8th at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 1050 Plaza Drive in Highlands Ranch.  The hours are 10am-8pm daily.  It's a wonderful way to see the talent and creativity the students of Douglas County School District have to offer.  I hope to see you there!
