Please use our attendance line for any attendance details - 303-387-8527. The attendance line is available 24 hours a day.

PTO Organization:
We are in need of more families/parents to join our event/fundraiser efforts within our PTO! The IHE PTO creates and organizes community events and fundraisers for our school, including Trunk or Treat, holiday store, Boosterthon, Readathon, spring fling, etc. All families are automatically a member of our PTO. If you are interested in becoming a board member or helping with event/fundraiser planning, please contact email Sue Grogan at sue.grogan@dcsdk12.org. Thank you!

Author Visit:
As a school district, we have a virtual author/illustrator visit scheduled for Monday, April 12th from 1:35-2:15.  We will have Annie Barrows and Sophie Blackall, author and illustrator of the Ivy and Bean book series. If you'd like to purchase a book, you can use the form below.

Tokyo Joe's Restaurant Night:
Please join us and support our school by enjoying a yummy dinner from Tokyo Joe's on Wednesday, April 14th between 4:00pm and 8:30pm. Please mention Iron Horse and we will receive a percentage of the total profit!

Spring Book Fair:
Our spring Scholastic Book Fair is coming!  We will be open Wednesday, April 21st - Friday, April 30th. We will again be using the eWallet program. Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow parents in the building so students will be purchasing items during the school day. More information will be coming from your classroom teacher.

Water Bottles:
With the warmer weather, please ensure that your child comes to school with a water bottle each day. Our fountains are not available due to COVID and we do not have extra water bottles. Thank you!

Masks:
We are continuing to have many students arrive without masks. Please ensure that your child leaves the vehicle or arrives with a mask available and on their face. Thank you!

Earth Month Challenge:
We are participating in the Earth Month challenge by USAgain. We are looking for your used clothing and shoes - drop them off in our USAgain receptacle located near the baseball fields to help us earn funds for our school.

Class Placements for 2021-2022
At this time, we are beginning the process of developing student class lists for the 2021-22 school year. When developing class lists we take many factors into consideration including:  student learning styles, classroom environment, behavioral considerations, ability levels and stages of developmental readiness, social relationships, gender distribution and participation in special programs.  Much thought and care goes into this seemingly simple task.

We have a very dedicated, talented and caring staff at Iron Horse. Our goal is to make each year meaningful for every student and to provide them with learning opportunities that truly support their academic growth. That being said, if you feel your child has a specific need or learning style that we should consider in their classroom placement for next year, we would like to solicit your input. We will NOT take requests for specific teachers.

Included here is our online questionnaire, called a Student Learning Profile.  This profile gives you an opportunity to share specific information about the kind of learning environment your child thrives in. Completing the Learning Profile is not an opportunity to ‘choose’ a specific teacher, but instead is your opportunity to share information about how your child best learns. We begin our process on developing classroom rosters at the end of April so we ask that ALL RESPONSES ARE SENT BACK TO US BY THURSDAY, APRIL 22nd. After this date, the form will close. We will NOT accept information sent after this time and will not make changes to rosters.

Please know that completing this profile is entirely optional on your part and not a requirement for us to create balanced classrooms and effective learning placements for your child. Please note that all requests and information must be received via this form. We will not accept information given to staff. Please complete one form for each student.

Updated Information Regarding COVID-19 and Illness:

The Colorado Department of Public Health had updated guidelines for schools for students that are exhibiting COVID symptoms for 48 hours or greater. If your child exhibits these symptoms and is out of school for 2 days, our nurse, Jen Kester, will send you this information and get in touch with you to discuss.

These guidelines are for when a person has had:

- Major symptoms of illness for 24 hours or greater (Loss of taste or smell, fever of 100 or greater, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing)

OR

- Minor symptoms of illness for 48 hours or greater (sore throat, runny nose or congestion, muscle or body aches, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).

Options:

1. You can take your child to get a PCR COVID-19 test.

If results are negative, your student may return after they have been fever free for 24 hours without medication, all other symptoms are improving and they can wear a mask. You will need to provide test results to the nurse or administration before their return

2. You can also opt for a 10 day home isolation from the onset of symptoms.

For example, if symptoms began on 1/1/21, you would count 1/2/21 as day 1 and student would isolate through the end of day on 1/11/21 and could return to normal activities on 1/12 as long as they has been fever free for 24 hours without medication and all other symptoms are improving and they can wear a mask
